What is a 'video remix'?

For the purposes of this database, a "video remix" is considered to be a piece of music with an accompanying visual presentation that builds upon an identifiable IP.

This includes...

• Culturally significant experimental presentations which mould the IP in ways unintended by the original creators.

• Plunderphonic music compositions built using samples from the IP.

Alice utilizes A/V clips to correspond with samples from the film used in the track.

• Non-canon musical numbers performed by IP representatives, which expand the expression of the IP.

This doesn't include...

• Music released intended to promote a piece of media, without serving as a platform for the IP to become transformative.

"R Kelly - I Believe I can fly" is performed against Space Jam visuals, but doesn't intertwine with the IP in a transformative way.

• In-universe musical numbers.

"It's over isn't it" is performed by Pearl in Steven Universe. This isn't a remix though, as it's a core part of the IPs narrative, that's presented within the story world.

• Music videos which utilize visuals from an IP, without exploring it in the music.

AMVs (pictured IDLEGLANCE) utilize anime visuals, but typically not in a transformative way.
